This clandestine activity was still going strong in 1935, when the writer Georges Bataille and the artist André Masson formed a secret society called Acéphale. Bataille secretly hoped that one of the group's members would one day volunteer to let him kill them as a human sacrifice, but, selfishly, not one of them did.




King City couple are heading to Golf Hall of Fame by train

Carmen and Neil Klenz of King City plan to visit the Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Fla., but they don't want to miss seeing the rest of the country on the way. No blur at 30,000 feet for them.

They'd like to take the long and scenic route by train, at least one way. They'll use frequent-flier miles on Alaska Airlines to return.




IHOP Corp. Increases Share Repurchase Authorization

IHOP Corp. today announced that its Board of Directors has approved a 1 million share increase in the Company's share repurchase authorization, bringing the total authorization to 4.6 million shares.

Since the inception of its share repurchase program in January 2003, IHOP has repurchased approximately 3.3 million shares out of a total previous authorization of 3.6 million shares as of August 28, 2005.




Newcastle go for Beckham

David Beckham has held talks with Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd about a sensational return to English football.

On the day Newcastle discovered they will lose Michael Owen for a year, it emerged that Shepherd met the Beckhams at Claridge's hotel in London.

EU opens Universal-BMG antitrust probe

EU regulators on Friday opened an antitrust probe of Universal Music Group's plans to buy BMG Music Publishing for about $2.1 billion, saying the deal could damage "the already concentrated music publishing market."
